Summer Internship Program for Exceptional Black Males
The Institute for Responsible Citizenship is currently accepting applications for its summer program at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Each summer, twelve of the most promising young minority male college sophomores in the country (possibly 24 this coming summer) are given the chance to travel to the nation’s capital and engage in prestigious internships while taking rigorous classes at Georgetown. The courses in government and economics are designed to provide these young men with the skills necessary to critically analyze the world’s problems while adhering to a deep respect for civil liberties. When the students are not in class or at work, they are often called upon to attend social functions designed to help them network in their field. Personal meetings with such leaders as Colin Powell, John Lewis, and Clarence Thomas are made possible by the intimate nature of the program.
The program runs from June 3 – July 28 and is a two-summer commitment (accommodations are made for students on the quarter system). During their first summer, students’ primary responsibilities outside of their internships are their academic courses. The following summer, in addition to their internships, mentorship with the latest cohort of Institute students and young high school students becomes a priority. Tuition and housing are paid for by the Institute, while students are expected to pay for their transportation and food. In addition, those not placed in paid internships will receive a stipend in the amount of $2500. While there are no major requirements, the program focuses on attracting young men interested in the fields of law, politics, business, academics, and the ministry. You should be a sophomore to apply, however, juniors are considered if they are committed to attending graduate or professional school directly following their senior year.
To give you an idea of the kind of students we have in our program, here are some statistics from our 2006 cohort:

where: palace station hotel & casino. las vegas, nv
how: online registration will be available at the western region website (www.pbs1914west.org)

blue law – fratting pari
we’ve all fallen victim to it, likely as a naive neo rockin’ the latest pari you picked up at a recent step show. for me, it was a t-shirt i picked up at the ’94 western regionals in san diego. wahnly fratted it from my sands after he “borrowed” it. didn’t find out until a return trip to school for founder’s day after i’d already graduated. i was like “you fratted that from me!” and he was like “nah i fratted it off rahsaan”…”and he fratted it off me!”
so the blue law topic of the day is how long after you’ve fratted something does transfer of ownership occur? my other sands, marlon, says one year ’cause if you ain’t missed it in a year, then it couldn’t have been that valuable. he goes on to add, unless you’re from out of town – then it should be two years.

blue laws
those miller lite commercials have always made me chuckle. i’m particularly amused by the manlaw ones where the men of the square table discuss manly dos and donts like capping beers, is it ok to hide a beer in the house fridge or do we tap tops or bottoms when toasting? they’ve got ‘em all online if you need a refresher.
it’s in this same spirit – part fun, part c’mon have some damn sense – that i introduce the concept of Blue Laws. Blue Laws will fill in the gaps where accepted traditions fall short. it won’t go so far as being absolute, but they’ll level set on the dos and donts. this first one should be of no surprise given the recent thread on bluphi.com
Blue Law: All paraphanelia must be royal blue and pure white only.
Background: as my dean always told us while on line “think motherfuckers think!” colors were chosen for a reason. if you don’t remember, then find the ceremony this was revealed to you and partake in an upcoming one.
Exceptions: when put on neutral colors like khaki, gray or even black. kinte cloth. to diss another org or claim “we look good in any color” is NOT an exception.
