Second Life Sigma
this afternoon, i decided to search for “phi beta sigma” on flickr and found this picture:
it’s a screenshot of the phi beta sigma museum created in second life. for those that don’t know, second life is (from wikipedia):
Second Life (abbreviated as SL) is an Internet-based virtual world which came to international attention via mainstream news media in late 2006 and early 2007. Developed by Linden Research, Inc (commonly referred to as Linden Lab), a downloadable client program enables its users, called “Residents”, to interact with each other through motional avatars, providing an advanced level of a social network service combined with general aspects of a metaverse. Residents can explore, meet other Residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, create and trade items (virtual property) and services from one another.
according to the blog post,
One or more members of Phi Beta Sigma have created a virtual fraternity house complete with a museum, living room, bar, pool table, and dance floor. After letting myself in, I introduced myself to about six “people” who were hanging out in their living room, chatting.
They were all pleasantly friendly, had pride in their virtual chapter house, and welcomed me to stop by anytime.
yeah it’s kinda geeky, but hey, aren’t we all a lil bit?

Genevieve Dorbor 1st Annual Scholarship Banquet
Genevieve Dorbor is the mother of Bro. Wahnly Dorbor. Last July, she was unexpectedly taken from us. This scholarship fund is setup in her honor.
Brothers,
I hope this email find all of you and your family’s in good health and spirit.
To keep our mothers legacy alive my family and our church are putting together a scholarship fund in her honor. On behalf on my family, I would like to invite you all to the first annual fund-raising banquet, to be held on Saturday July 14, 2007. This fundraiser is to raise money to hand out scholarships next year to deserving college freshmen both here and in Liberia. I know that not all will be able to attend but please donate to the cause. Those of you who are be able to attend please do so. Also if you would like to buy ad space or send the family an encouraging word please feel free to do that as well. Please notice that you must RSVP by July 1, 2007.
I have volunteered us Phi Beta Sigma to donate drinks for the banquet (water, soda, beer and wine). My family and the church will appreciate any help we can get.
If you are sending money for tickets, ad space or to donate to the scholarship fund please send it to church address listed in the invite. For money to contribute to drinks please send to my address:
Thanks bothers for your thoughts and prayers during this last year. I look forward to hearing from you all.

marathon
i just had to post a big congrats to my sands, ashanti branch, who completed the rock n roll marathon in san diego yesterday. a foot injury put him on the shelf the past few weeks, but when i spoke to him on friday, the plan was to walk the first half and run the second half. now i never made it to a full marathon and a knee injury hit me just before i ran my half marathon, so i know how frustrating it can be. this morning i looked up his results and it looks like he made it just past the 7hr soft cutoff, coming in at 7:02:19.
the best part is that he exceeded his goal of raising $3000 for the leukemia & lymphoma society. you can read all about why he ran this race and it’s not too late to donate. nice job, sands!
