Florida Board Endorses Mason

There have been several states, chapters and individuals who have openly endorsed a specific candidate for International President, as well as the various other International offices. Hence, the request was made that the Florida State Director as well as the entire State of Florida “follow suit” and endorse a candidate as well. In the past I have remained firm on the stance that we should not endorse any candidate for any position unless I can be ASSURED that every chapter in Florida would vote for that same candidate. Our current voting process does not allow for this type of certainty.

I believe it is the responsibility of each individual chapter to determine who they feel will best serve SIGMA. However, SIGMA is at an important crossroads and the decisions made in Charlotte will effect this organization not only for the next 2 years but perhaps the next decade.

Therefore, The Florida Executive Board has decided to publicly endorse Brother Jonathan Mason for the position of International President and Brother Sidney McCray, for the office of International First Vice President. Brothers Mason and McCray have a solid and proven record of dedicated service to our organization and we as a board feel that this is the direction SIGMA should move towards.

Unfortunately we are at a time where morale is low and the overall faith in SIGMA, and some of its members and leaders, have been somewhat shaken. Brothers Mason and McCray have the talent, ability and most important, the DESIRE to restore the trust that has been broken in SIGMA. It is with FULL CONFIDENCE that I as State Director as well as the entire Florida State Executive Board endorse these 2 magnificent brothers to lead SIGMA for the next 2 years.

Please contact me if you require anyadditional information from the Florida State Executive Board. Thank you!

Louis W. Lubin Jr.
Florida State Director

New IED in the News

as if the potentially unconsitutional way in which bro. marco mc millian was selected as the new international executive director wasn’t controversial enough, a new scandal has arisen. from WAFF:

Marco McMillan, former executive assistant to Alabama A&M University’s President, Robert Jennings, is under investigation for allegedly wasting tax payer money by taking unearned money while employed by the University.

Jemison Treasurer Announcement

My Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma:

I have served as your International Executive Director for the past seven years. I thank you for the confidence that you have shown to me and the great moments that I have experienced in the position that you entrusted to me.

Over the last seven years of my tenure, I have watched our revenues more than triple and our membership rise to the largest number in our history. We are now just weeks from the largest Conclave registration in the history of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. We have much to be proud of and I am grateful you have allowed me to be a part of these most important achievements.

In a few days my official time as your International Executive Director will come to an end. My wish would have been to continue as your IED so that many important changes could be made to strengthen Phi Beta Sigma and to fully expand our operation. At this moment, I cannot control whether or not I may be able to continue as your International Executive Director. But I can control whether or not I offer myself to protect the constitutional and financial integrity of Phi Beta Sigma. I joined Phi Beta Sigma because I believe in Brotherhood, Scholarship and Service. I have given all that I have to serve you well over the past seven years. Because of the special position that I have held over the past seven years, I did not want to simply walk away with much of the job unfinished. There are still many important things that must be done at the Conclave level, at the Executive Director level and at the General Board level in Sigma to make us operate more effectively. I want to share some of those areas of concern with you.
