Tom Joyner Morning Show “Next Commentator” Audition
bro tracy morris, western region publicity director, passed on the following email this weekend from bro. anthony samad.
I hope all is well with you all. As you may (or may not) know, Commentator Tavis Smiley announced in May that, after 12 years, he would be leaving the Tom Joyner Morning Show (TJMS). Since that time, Tom launched a contest to find the next national commentator for the TJMS. After hundreds of submissions, seven of the eight finalists have been selected to do “on-air” auditions to replace Tavis. The auditions will run all summer (on an elimination process) and Tavis will pass the baton to the new “commentator voice of Black America” who will begin the twice a week commentaries in late September.
I have the honor of being selected as one of the eight finalists. TJMS is in 115 markets and has 8-9 million daily listeners. Most of those markets is east of Texas. However, the show can be heard live on the internet at www.TJMS.com. My first on-air audition is Tuesday, July 8th at 7:10 a.m. Central time (8:10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, 5:10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time). I’d like to ask you all to do two things:
1) Listen in and vote on-line at www.blackamericaweb.com.
2) Touch your East Coast, Mid-West and Southern Networks to them know that a Sigma is in the running for the Commentator position and for them to listen in and vote (as you know Tom is a Q and Tavis is a Kappa).
I appreciate your prayers, support and whatever you choose to do, just know we’re all in this to save our people. Thank you for your consideration.

35 Years of Sigma
I was going through some of the artifacts that I received from Bro. Hall’s family and I found a xeroxed copy of Thirty-Five Years of Sigma -The Crescent- Special Edition 1949 -Who’s Who in Sigma. If any of you have an original copy, we need to have this copy REPRINTED and distributed. This book has 3 very significant historical articles: A MUST READ -
- The First Four Years by A. Langston Taylor
- As I Remember Them by Leonard F. Morse
- Conclaves – Sure I Remember Them by I.L. Scruggs
There is even a short paragraph by the National President (Bro. R.O. Johnson 1949) stating the importance of preserving historical records, artifacts, documents and photographs.
As we look back on your illustrious history, I thank our Founder’s and Charter member for documenting their history and making sure that it was told.
