Men who are NOT members of Phi Beta Sigma II

We will continue to update brothers on whether certain men are members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Please see my previous post on this subject.

Morgan Freeman – Not a Sigma!
Recently, Bro. Mallet Pacich did a little research to determine whether actor Morgan Freeman was a member of our fraternity. Here is the response he received back from Mr. Freeman’s publicist:

About a week ago, I contacted Morgan Freeman’s publicist to see if they could verify whether or not Mr. Freeman was a member of our Fraternity.

Please read her response below….

Wow, Mark! I’m Mr. Freeman’s publicist (I also run his nonprofit below) and I’m a former Miss Phi Beta Sigma – my father was a Sigma; but Morgan, who is also a family member, is not. I’m sure you know that Blair Underwood and others in Hollywood are Sigmas, but I’m sorry to report that Morgan isn’t as lucky.

Best of luck to you,

Donna Lee

Well Brothers…another book is closed.

Hill Harper – Not a Sigma!
Mr. Harper recently was initiated in Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

James Farmer – Not a Sigma!
Mr. Farmer was the founder of CORE, but he is a member of Omega Psi Phi. I believe brothers confuse him with Bro. James Foreman, another Civil Rights Leader. Mr. Farmer is also featured in the Denzel Washington movie “The Debaters.” He is the youngest member of the debate team.

Jason Motes – Not a Sigma!
Mr. Motes is identified as a professional surfer and I was able to call and talk to him about his greek affiliation. He personally told me that he is not a member of any fraternity. I think the confusion here is that we do have a Bro. Jason Motes, who pledged at the University of Depauw, but is not a surfer!

University of Phi Beta Sigma

Over the past twenty years, as the officers of Phi Beta Sigma have come increasingly from the ranks of American corporations, we have seen a steady movement away from the Conclave Model that our Founders gave us to the Corporate President/Board Model that is now clearly in force.

Our Founders recognized that the Conclave Model would place the supreme power in the hands of those (our chapters) who would be governed by the rules, regulations and decisions that they would make for themselves. Now that the President and General Board has substituted our group wisdom and focus for the parochial wisdom that they have limited us to, the collective energy and development of the Fraternity has become weak and relegated Sigma to a position far inferior to all of the other members of the Pan-Hellenic Council.
