Phi Beta Sigma gives Scholarship


The local men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Lambda Alpha Sigma alumni chapter have continued with its principals of scholarship, service and brotherhood throughout the year and they topped it off on Saturday June 4 at the Quality Inn with their annual Ebony and Ivory Affair to benefit the Andrew Drew Simmons Educational Foundation. With the chapter President, Michael Sutherland, being the emcee for the evening which was filled with recognition of graduating members of the fraternity, elegance, laughter by comedian DJ Pryor, entertainment by rappers Wesley C-Dub Sutherland and Martavious Sam Gohard Votaw. Special entertainment by the 2010 Ms. Tennessee Zeta of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Erin Walden with her viola and the speaker was Alexander Davie, who spoke on how education has changed his life. Then unknowing to Mr. Davie the fraternity presented him the second annual scholarship award. He is a 2011 graduate of Christian County High School with a 3.96 GPA and he will be attending Kentucky State University in pursuit of a pre-medicine degree with a concentration in Bio-Medical Engineering and to play baseball. The evening continued with dancing and socialization. Lambda Alpha Sigma chapter will be having a scholarship banquet to continue benefiting the scholarship later in the year.
