Greetings to you and your family as we begin to celebrate the holiday season. A national email was sent to you from our Web Master with the intent to disseminate our position announcement fulfilling the constitutional requirement regarding the contractual agreement the Fraternity has with our International Executive Director. The purpose of this communication is to clarify the intent of the email.

I asked a member of the Technology Team to send out an email of the approved Position Announcement and job description regarding the International Executive Director (IED). The email you received was written and sent by our Web Master. It is worded in a manner that has caused some confusion. Please know that Neither the General Board of Phi Beta Sigma nor the International President has terminated any Brother or person(s) working at our International Headquarters. We are fulfilling our duties as required by our Constitution as the contract for our International Executive Director expires in July 2007. I have started the search process to assist me with fulfilling my duties as outlined in our constitution regarding the IED. We are also fulfilling the Conclave Los Angeles 2005 mandate regarding the position of IED.

The HR Committee Chairman, individual members of the HR committee, nor I, approved any of the written text in the body of the email, or had anything to do with the content of the language. The bottom line is that the written statement within the body of the email did NOT come from the Human Resources Committee although it was signed that it did. I can assure you that the Web Master just wanted to get the announcement out to Brotherhood quickly per my instructions. The web master did NOT intend to misrepresent the Human Resources Committee. The selection of a few words by the Web Master has caused some misinterpretation. A different selection of terminology would have prevented this mishap and been more appropriate. I accept responsibility for any miscommunication this may have caused with some Brothers across the country. The content of the email would have changed if it could have been reviewed prior to being disseminated to the Brotherhood. It was sent out without being proof-read and approved by me. This will not happen again.

Attached to this email, you now have in your possession two items. First, the position announcement that states we are looking for candidates to submit their resume regarding the IED position that comes open in July 2007, and second, the job description that specifically states the qualifications, knowledge and skills we are looking for in the Brother to assume the duties of IED in July 2007. Brother Jemison and I have spoken about the search committee before it was formed. He and I have also discussed the position announcement after I sent it to him. I wanted to answer any questions he may have prior to it being release to the Brotherhood. Please know that all interested financial Brothers are encouraged to submit a resume, if they meet the requirements noted in the job description and can fulfill the duties as outlined in our constitution. Brother Jemison informed me he is planning to submit his qualifications.

We want our best and brightest to offer themselves to work for Phi Beta Sigma in one of the most important functions within our Fraternity. If you are confident you can rise to the occasion, please consider submitting your resume.

Finally, If you know a Brother you would to consider serving us as our International Executive Director, starting in July 2007, consider forwarding this email with the attachments to that Brother. This is a very important decision for our Fraternity and my goal is to conduct a comprehensive search carried out in a respectful professionalism manner.

Thank you for all you do for Phi Beta Sigma. Remember, in most instances there are two sides to every situation, one positive and one negative. I will always choose the positive. You choose the one that represents you best. But I'm confident you will make the same choice I did. Know that your individual leadership helps make our Fraternity what it is and can be in the future. We are always looking to become a bigger and better Fraternity.

Let's take Phi Beta Sigma to the next level. The Power is positively within you. God bless.

Fraternally Yours,

Paul L. Griffin, Jr.
International President
