ROCK HILL — A group of Winthrop students traded the warmth of their beds Friday night for the chill of Dinkins Lawn to raise awareness about homelessness.<\/p>\n
Members of Phi Beta Sigma spent the night in a cardboard shanty town on the grass next to Dinkins Hall as part of their fraternity’s national initiative – Sleep Out for the Homeless – which comes around once a year. Alumni members came out, too.<\/p>\n
“We’re out there doing it for a greater cause,” said Bobby Kirkland, president of the Winthrop chapter. The fraternity also collected canned goods to be donated to a local charity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
