Western Region Newsletter
from bro. rafael matos, western regional secretary:
Thank you for your patience. I had to take for myself the past couple of months to complete my degree, take vacation, move to my new place and transition into my new job. So, to those of you who were patient and supportive, I would like say thank you!
Attached you will find the Western Region Newsletter for July 2006. Please note that there will be another newsletter printed for August, and from there we will go into a bi-monthly schedule (that’s every two months). The August edition will be out on the 15th.
After the August version, the deadline to make submissions will be the 21st of the previous month; so for the October edition, the deadline is September 21st. If for some reason you cannot make this deadline, please contact me and we will see what can be done.
In order to keep printing cost and postage cost down, we are asking borthers to please forward the newsletter electronically to everyone in your Chapter. In the event a Brother wants a hardcopy, please help the Region out by printing it out for that Brother.
Everything concerning the Regional Newsletter should be sent to SigmaWestNews@aol.com.

Sigma Search Engine
do you see that search box i added just above the blog posts? it’s a Sigma search engine! what the heck do you mean? glad you asked. Yahoo! just released a product called Search Builder today. of course, i’ve seen this on the horizon for quite some time now. it allows me to cater a web search experience just for Phi Beta Sigma. with this search box, i restricted it to a list of 30-40 Sigma URLs i have saved to My Web. so the results you get are from those sites.
to make this search box even more relevant to both Sigmas and Zetas, i can continually add to the sites it searches. so send me your chapter sites and any other sites you think would be relevant to the first Phi Beta Sigma search engine.

Sigma Museum
one of the hot topics on the campaign trail leading up to Conclave LA was the Sigma museum and Sigma historian. i was very surprised to hear we haven’t had an appointed historian in quite some time. but that didn’t stop brothers mark pacich (aka mallet) and kevin christian from embarking on their own indiana jones like mission over 7 years ago to collect the most comprehensive collection of Sigma artifacts to date. consisting of photos, letters, paraphanelia, etc. donated to these Brothers from long time Sigma Brothers as well as items they paid for and won on eBay of all places, Brothers Mallet and K. Christian have shared their collection at various regional conferences, meetings, etc.
i came across an email the other day in which kevin attached a ppt of the Sigma museum and realized i still hadn’t blogged about it. before you download it, realize it’s nearly 1 GB because of all the pics. now i have yet to have the honor of seeing it in person, but i already can’t wait.
if you have items you’d like to donate to the Sigma Museum, please email me and i can put you in touch with them.
