Look at the collective minds in this picture.

Zeta Pi Sigma Chapter – Honolulu, 2002

I hope that each of you had a good Thanksgiving Holiday. Mine was too short.

Today in Sigma History comes by way of Bro. Will Harrington and Bro. Terry Davis (former National Treasurer). In 2002, Bro. Davis, attended the first annual Zeta Pi Sigma Chapter Scholarship Ball in Hawaii. I asked him to bring me back some memorabilia from his trip so that I could one day include it in the Sigma Museum. Well, he honored the request and brought back the following pictures and souvenir journal. In addition, our good brother, Will “Slow Motion” Harrington, who was a member of Zeta Pi Sigma at the time, recently
identified all of the brothers in the pictures for me.

Brother Decatur Morse

Bro. Decatur Morse

I just got back from the March on DC today, NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE! Many of you said, you like to hear my stories. This one started with Bro. Mark “Mallet” Pacich. Right before Conclave 2001-Detroit, Mallet called me up and said Kev, how far do you live from Springfield, Virginia. I said 5-10 minutes why? He said would you go by Bro. Decatur Morse’s home and pick up a few items for me, I am going to show them in the Museum. He gave me Bro. Morse number and Bro. Morse and I made arrangements for me to come by and pick up the artifacts. What I thought would be a five minute meeting, actually turned into me staying at Bro. Morse’s house for five hours. Man, to be speaking to the son of a founder and to find out that he is just as down to earth, just like a regular brother. From that meeting, each September, Bro. Morse hosted me and a few local brothers at his house to fellowship. Man, just listing to him tell stories about his father and his father’s life. Bro. Morse’s older Bro. Leonard F. Jr. is also frat and lives in the Seattle area. Man, wouldn’t it be nice to have both of them do a session at a regional conference or at the next Conclave. Here are a few pictures that yours truly took at a few of our meetings with Bro. Morse.

Here is some SIGMA History for you!

First Picture is Bro. Morse (Eta 1956) and Bro. Nelson (Zeta Alpha 1939) sharing Sigma stories. Man, those two together, you could listen to them all day. Then you have Bro. Morse with, Clockwise, Bro. Harrington, Bro. Frasier, Bro. McKenzie (kneeling), Bro. Bembridge, Bro. Bembridge, and Bro. Hurley. (I was the Photographer).

One time, as we were leaving Bro. Morse’s home, one brother said to him, “Bro. Morse, if all of these brothers were not in your house, I would have cried like a baby in front you. Man to hear the life that your father lead makes me proud that I am apart of something that he FOUNDED”.

I thought that was profound….

Bro. Morse with Bro. Nelson was taken in Sept. 2001 Bro. Nelson with Alpha Chapter 02, Bro. Harrington and Bro. Frazier was Sept. 22, 2002

WE COME FROM GREATNESS BROTHERS…IF YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY…YOU KNOW YOURSELF…

Alpha Chapter and Phi Beta Sigma 1927

Alpha Chapter 1927

I am back from my Board Meeting! Man! One down, one more to go in April.

This is very interesting piece of history today. I am sorry for the quality, but this is the way that I received them. And since I have no technical skills whatsoever, I am presenting it the way it is.

Here is a picture of Alpha Chapter in 1927 from the Howard University Yearbook. In 1927, it appears they had decided to label the chapters Collegiate/Graduate. In 1920, they called the chapters Alumni Chapters with no Greek Letter designations (ex. Washington, D.C. Alumni Chapter not Alpha Sigma). In 1927, if you read your previous history, look where Nu, Xi were located. The Phi Chapter 1965 yearbook says that Phi was founded in 1928, but here you see it was around in 1927. Psi Chapter was at Gammon Theological Seminary. But the Psi Chapter picture from the Clark College History Book says it was founded at Clark in 1937. Again, one of those history facts that just makes you say HUMMMM……

Sigma in 1927

Look MU SIGMA (typo maybe) in Philadelphia and XI Sigma was in Welch, West Virginia. SIGMA SIGMA was in HUNTINGTON, WVA. TIME FOR SOME REACTIVATION IN WEST VIRGINIA….Look at Beta Beta in San Antonio and Gamma Beta in Greensboro, but they are listed under Graduate Chapters.

Joseph N. Dodson was President of Alpha Chapter in 1927.

Peace my brothers,

Today in SIGMA HISTORY – ALPHA CHAPTER AND A LOOK AT SIGMA IN 1927 – November 15, 2007

ps. WHO CAUGHT “ORGANIZED AT HOWARD, MARCH 9, 1914″ AND THIS IS FROM THE HOWARD UNIVERSITY YEARBOOK. More than likely a TYPO or is? Founded and organized are two different things?
