Greetings Brothers! I hope this letter finds you and yours in the best possible health as we approach the Eastern Regional Conference in Baltimore, MD.
The 2008 regional conference season is an opportunity for all regions to begin implementing a much needed change in Sigma. The time has come for those brothers with the talent, commitment and general love for Sigma to stand up, step forward and make things happen. WE can no longer afford to remain silent while Sigma continues to lose touch in our communities. Enough Is Enough! Now is the time to make the necessary changes which can place US in a more suitable position for change in New Orleans.
As I have stated in the past, Sigma is not a spectator’s sport. The only way Sigma can return to the once great organization of the past will be for The Body to get into the game. Sigma can only thrive if WE work together to make it happen. WE need every able bodied brother, now more than ever, to recommit to the oath they took to Sigma.
This letter will serve as the official announcement of my intent to seek the privilege of serving you as your Regional Director of Publicity. However, I will do so in a nontraditional way. I will not play the political game, my name will come via a nomination from the floor. This letter is an opportunity for me to share information with you prior to the conference. I am sharing my thoughts on those things WE can accomplish in this region by simply working together. With your help WE can produce a top notch newsletter, in a timely fashion, and spread the word of Sigma’s “Service to Humanity??? throughout the Region.
Firstly, allow me to take the time to answer some important questions in an attempt to make things clear. I will not take up any of your time discussing myself, but ask that you speak to those that know me and those I have worked with over the last 23 years. This will give you an idea of what I am about and assist as you make your decision, more than any words on paper can achieve.
Do I want to be the Director of Publicity? No, I have never desired to hold any office outside that of my chapter. I have always been more comfortable in the background doing the “grunt work???, if you will. I am fine with letting others take the credit, as long the job gets done right.
Will I be able to get the job done? You have my guarantee. I would not offer my service if I had no intention of doing the job. There is no reason for me to waste my time and more importantly your time. However, I caution you to remember, the commitment and participation of the members and chapters of this Region will play a role in OUR success.
More importantly, will I perform the duties of the position as called for in the constitution? Without a doubt, although I do not desire the position I will do all that is necessary to fulfill all the responsibilities of the position. In the event this did not happen it would be upon you, the Body, to remove me from that position. Anything short of that, on your part, would be irresponsible. In a successful Sigma everyone must play a role and live up to their collective responsibilities
Am I financial for the year 2008? Yes.
Do I have any experience in the area of producing a newsletter? No. However, I have contacts with brothers possessing the necessary skills to get the job done. Their skills coupled with the assistance of other able bodied brothers in the Region will produce the much desired results. WE can produce the newsletter you want and deserve on time.
Why now? At this point in our history it is not about what we necessarily want to do, but all about what needs to be done. As I stated earlier, the time for change is now and I would like to be part of that change. Enough Is Enough!!!
The ideas I propose to you are just that, ideas to be discussed. I am not here to push any personal agenda, or that of any other party. These ideas will be presented before a committee and from that discussion WE will come up with a plan of action. It will be my responsibility to ensure the plan reaches fruition. This can only be done with the assistance, input and commitment of the Body. The regional newsletter is not mine to manipulate. The newsletter belongs to the brothers and chapters of the Eastern Region. It will be OUR job to produce a document that will reflect that.
Enclosed with this letter please find the following items: a) Proposed newsletter outline b) Moving Forward (same attachment): Improving the area of publicity in the Region and c) Sample newsletter.
In closing, a vote for me is a vote for the Body, a vote for Sigma. If you are looking for Sigma business as usual, vote accordingly. However, if you are ready for a brother willing to serve The Body and work together towards positive change, I am here to serve and would appreciate your vote. Allow me to serve you and be a strong voice of change and progress on the Regional Board. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or suggestions.
WE can move this region and fraternity forward by working together. It’s time my Brothers. PEACE!!!
