  1. I think the website looks a lot better. It still has a long way to go, because the design is rather amateur. This type of design is something I was doing in the 10th grade. Iota Nu Sigma or even the programs page is a better look.

I made a suggestion that rather than having 32 give the welcome message, we should feature our collegiate brothers and allow them to rotate month by month and give the message. Give the site a more youthful feel.

I also noticed that the “blogs” for 32 and Marco aren’t blogs. Blogs feature dialog and conversation back and forth. Blogs are also updated on a regular basis. These aren’t blogs, they are updates.

  2. I support Bro. Steve’s comments! It’s a step in the right direction, but it still needs the polish that an international organization should have for a website. Steve’s comments about rotating the welcome monthly with undergraduates is “thinking out of the box.” I hope the Technology Committee picks up this ideal.

  3. Don’t really care for the new website. It is a new look but the look is not polished for anyone who knows web design. Its seems we also lost a lot of material such as the Sigma spotlight. I understand everyone will not be satisfied but the previous site had better content flow, all we wanted it was to be updated. Is it me or is our site , Q purple now?

  4. Our site is Q purple, unless my macbook pro is faulty. The site, for all intents and purposes, is the zeta website. Really, if we are going to pay for something, lets get something quality in return.

Bro. Galloway, I talked to some board members about the suggestion and they really don’t seem to care for it. I think its good though, so I am going to get a grassroots movement going into the clave.

  5. Good evening Brothers:

Personally, I like the new site. Its a VAST improvement. More info and features could be added, but the overall design is – most importantly – clean.

I also like Bro. Steve’s idea of putting emphasis not on officers but rather on our collegiate brothers. Addresses from 2nd Vice Prez or 2nd Vice RDs would be welcomed.

I’m glad we kept the business in the family. However,
I was under the impression that the technology committee was designing the site themselves?

I’m eager to see what comes next.

  6. Bro. Arthur, I was also under the impression that the Technology Committee was doing the website.

  7. OK being on the team I just wanted to clear one thing up. The site is simply a temp face lift so that it is no longer served on the prior contract with Maximust. The upgrades will come but this site is finally ours.

  8. I think the website is an improvement, however the observations that have been made are correct. The color is off, and some aspects such as the font selections do not seem appropriate for an International Headquarters website. Our Programs website is still a much better looking site aesthetically and I hope that the site will move towards that look in the near future, especially since so much emphasis was placed on improving our Brand at the workshops at the past Conclave. The new site, while I am excited that is updated, does not match the new brand guidelines.

  9. @christopher jones – there are brand guidelines? that’s good to finally hear. i told paul about the need to do that in 2005.

  10. those guidelines are a great start, but i think they must go further. it should specify the exact hex color for the blue that should be used. does this mean the greek letters must always be separated with the | ? when do you include the org name spelled out? what font should it be in? does the “fraternity, inc.” always need to be there? what about the shield?

am i the only one who noticed that if this is the guideline, the newly redesigned pbs1914.org is not in compliance?

  11. I do like the site, however I am less critical of the design because I think it is lacking other more important things. A couple key elements not previously mentioned here:
    1) A secure login for memebers. While I commend brother Phil for this website, it really should not be open to the public! A site like this could be housed under that secure login section, along with internal frat updates and files for everything from chapter report forms to Omega ceremony protocall to intake documents/ceremonies, etc. We should not have to “ask around” the chapter to collect these things.
    2) The ability to send out email blasts internally to all those who have set up a profile (of course, membership should be verified). I personally feel that we need to use e-mail to reach out to members. This could be in the form of an international newsletter where the general body can be updated (the Cresent PDF should be sent out like this), or just a friendly reminder to get back active in your nearby chapter (if you have became inactive) or register for the upcoming conclave or regional.
Furthermore, I agree w/ the comment about the “blog”.

  12. Brother GMC,

I have to disagree with you a little here. I do not think it is Phil’s responsibility to construct and maintain a website that offers the services that all Regional and National websites should already be offering. Remember, Phil is just one Brother. Regional websites should have all necessary Fraternity forms, and we know that the National website should as well.

Phil agreed to host and maintain this website for Brothers to talk about the Fraternity’s history…because outside of the Sigma Museum…there is no other venue to do it.

    If i mis-understood your post, I apologize.

    Mallet

  13. Brother GMC:

This blog is public so that not only Sigmas can learn about our great fraternity, but other greeks, those interested in membership, our family and friends, and the general public. The information posted on this site is historical in nature and should be shared with as many people as possible. I agree with Mallet that what you are looking for should be found on the National Headquarters’ and the numerous Regional websites.

  14. Yes, I feel I may have been misunderstood slightly – my mistake…I think that Phil did (is doing) a great thing with this site. I agree, it is not his responsibility to create something that the Regional and National sites should have. And I also agree, Bro. Galloway, that historical posts like ones on this site should be open to the public.

However, we should have a venue to dialogue openly about issues such as our satisfaction/lack therof with the current administration, the state of Sigma, improvements to programs, etc – many of the issues brought about on this site – that is not open to the public. (Perhaps this discussion as well). In other words, we dont want to air our dirty laundry. And if you look around at some of the posts and topics discussed on this blog, we really are.

  15. I now better understanding your post. The blog has taken a different direction since a lot of the posts you probably have seen posted in the past. I do agree some of these posts should have been offline or through another communication vehicle, but there is so much more positive about Sigma now being posted. Thanks for communicating to us by using Bluephi.net. Continue to check out all the historical information that brings forth all the great things about Sigma.
