many of you had seen the HQ basement mess i passed on a while back. well it’s time to call mr. ripley ’cause believe it or not, something’s actually being done about it.
Bro. Eric Gilliam, Clean-up Initiative Chairman and the National Headquarters’ Staff are spearheading a National Headquarters Clean-up. We intend to clean-up and throw out old equipment and material stored in the basement and organize what remains. A catered lunch will be provided so it is extremely important that all volunteers RSVP to Bro. Wayne Green (202-726-5434 / 5424) at the National Headquarters so that he can get an estimated count of volunteers for food.
i’ve seen a few threads saying “it’s about damn time” or it’s only being done because elections are coming up. well, whatever the reason, let’s be glad someone is doing something about it.
The problem is this is like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. The one day can not even put a dent on the mess in the basement.
We have all seen the photos with boxes on top of boxes, and most filled with paperwork.
These items must be sorted CORECTLY and a decision made on what stays and what goes. There is no way this can be done in one day, or even a weekend.
Brothers that hve been down there tell us you should not be there, for any length of time, without a mask. The conditions are such they recommend a commercial entity come in fumigate the space prior to any brother cleaning down there. Did they do this as of yet? I doubt it . . .
Much of our history has been lost to ignorance, let’s not continue down that road by tossing out items tha are important to tha history for the sake of DOING SOMETHING.
While they did not need a PLAN on paper to get this done, it still must be done respectfully and efficiently. This does not necessarily mean with a quickness. Start the ball rolling, but also be careful about how you go about it.
Then, when the area is cleaned up and all items are properly filed and/or catagorized, What then? Keeping many of those items in the basement spells disaster down the road as time and deterioration set in. The items need to be digitized and then sent somewhere where they can be stored and cared for properly.
This is where Kansas State comes into play. They want to partner with PBS to do just that. However, as usual our elected officers do not want to go with what is logical, but want to play games. What it boils down to is this, if the idea came from Carter, Stanley or any assortment of those clowns it would have been a great idea. But, because it came from Bro. Christian they do not want to hear it. They have that, “Who the hell doe he think he is” attitude.
The biggest question is to the MEMBERSHIP. When are we going to live up to our responsibilities to Phi Beta Sigma, stnad up and start making demands? Start supporting those brothers who are trying to put Sigma back on track and follow the vision of the Founders.
Can someone, anyone answer this question? It has been out there for years now, but I have never received an answer . . .
I agree 100%. What are we doing & where is the logic. I have read the responses of brothers regarding the basement and must say we need better leadership. The upcoming election is vital to the future of Sigma. we must take the fraternity back and bring it to its original purpose.
“Yhe next election is vital”…this phrase cannot be more true. I have no idea what #32’s plan of action is going to be now…because I am sure all of his attention is going to be geared to the South Carolina Hazing issue. Besides that – we do need new elected officials. The current administration has lied, hidden the truth, and kept us in the dark for too long. Why am I just now hearing about the thousands that the past Sigma Beta Club advisor stole under Art’s administration? Why is Terry Davis not in jail? Why haven’t we collected 1 dime from him? All the while…these Brothers are going to tour the country asking for your vote…What a joke!

not that i’m disagreeing, but i just thought having some positive news on here would be good once a while. but definitely with you…we have a long road ahead of us.
I agree Phil – but it is the BAD news and the truth “they” keep trying to cover up…
