help me pick a charity

every year, Yahoo! founders jerry yang and david filo personally fund and distribute holiday gifts to the employees here at the sunnyvale headquarters. we’ve received some pretty snazzy gifts over the years: mp3 player, a fleece, gym bag, a comfy wool blanket that still gets a lot of use at home, and another jacket last year to name a few. this year they’ve flipped the script in giving us $100 to give to a charity of our choice. jerry and david have long been community minded as evidenced in the Yahoo! Employee Foundation. so they teamed up with four organizations to help us find a cause: DonorsChoose.org, globalgiving.com, Network for Good, and YEFI (Yahoo! Employee Foundation India) and Parikrma. as i was looking thru the various charities lists, i thought it would be good to choose one that’s affiliated with Phi Beta Sigma. personally, i’m partial to children’s charities, but if your chapter works with a particular charity you want to make a plug for, send it my way or leave me a comment and i’d be happy to see if it’s on the list. and if it moves me, you can consider it done.

  1. Phil,

I know we were once partners with St. Jude Childre,’s Research Hospital in under Bro. mason. However, I am not sure this partnership continued under Bro. White. They are still listed on the website under Affiliated Organizations. However, I havge never sen them mentioned under the Social Action pottion of the website. White has a website now http://www.pbs1914programs.org/, and I have not seen it from browsing through it. You can try to contact him and ask if we are still partnered with them. The site can be accessed from the website’s Social Action page.
It seems, as contiues to happpen, he has come in an kicked most of the work done by Mason to the curb for his own agenda. This is one of the reasons why we are always spinning our wheels. Every newly elected officer ignores past programs and starts his own.
His big push seems to be Sigma Wellness. You would think he would announce this and his new website to the membership.

    PEACE,
    Todd
