At 2 p.m. today, members of each African American student organization will be taking part in a community service event to thank Facilities Management for the work that they do every day.
Sophomore safety management major George Nelson, who is a member of Phi Beta Sigma and Student African American Brotherhood [SAAB] said the idea arose when his organizations had a meeting of the minds.
“We were all like ‘we need to do something together as black organizations and it would be a perfect idea to thank the groundskeepers and do a community service event and beautify the campus,'” Nelson said. “It’s really a need and it was surrounded by the theme of Thanksgiving.”
Nelson said the organizations taking part include Phi Beta Sigma, SAAB, Sisters Too, Student African American Sisterhood [SAAS], Intellectual Sisters Inspiring Sisters [ISIS], the Bless the Mic crew, MAPS, Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, NAACP and the Black Student Union.
