networking

there are a few networking opportunities within Sigma that you should take action to be a part of:

if HQ has your current address, you should have received a form letter from Harris Connect Inc. about the membership directory. this is the same company that compiled the directory most recently. i’ve also seen a few emails sent around about this. in case you didn’t get it, you can call Harris Connect at 800-476-9272. i have a personal ID on my post card (assume it was assigned to me when i filled out the form last time) and not sure how it’ll work, but let’s go ahead and submit our info.

secondly, i want to plug the Affinity Tree which powers the Sigma Network on the national site. it costs nothing to submit your information to create a profile and if you wish to pay the $20 yearly fee, you get additional functionality like being able to email the network. at the very least, this channel will add your email to a distribution list used by HQ from time to time so it’s a quick and easy way to get into the loop.

while these two things are nice, we need something that really does network our membership. how many people actually paid for the $100+ membership directory from harris connect? how many of you who did provide their info to the directory were even contacted by another Brother for opportunities? and don’t get me started on a hardcopy directory. that’s so last century. the Affinity Tree has more potential to power the organization’s membership platform than the networking platform. there are far more advanced, feature rich social networking platforms out there that can do a much better job. oh and they’re free too.
