2009 Gulf Coast/Louisiana Collegiate of the Year

Congratulations to Bro. Jarell Johnson of Rho Chapter, Southern University. In February, he was named the “Louisiana State Collegiate of the Year???, and then in April he was named “Gulf Coast Region Collegiate of the Year.??? Listed below is the bio for Bro. Johnson.

Jarell Johnson

My name is Jarell Johnson, a spring 2006 initiate of the Rho chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and the current chapter president of Rho Chapter at Southern University A & M College. Since joining the fraternity I have held several positions on the chapter level and is now excelling in the state, by being appointed as Louisiana State Director of Education and helping with Collegiate affairs. As chapter president I led the chapter to win chapter of the year at the 2009 Gulf Coast Regional Conference winning 4 out of the 5 awards available to collegiate chapter, while being named chapter brother of the year for the state of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region. On last semester I served as Committee chairman of the first ever S. U. Sigma’s scholarship fund, where we awarded a young African American male a $500.00 stipend to cover some of the expenses of school during these tough economic times. As a student I have excelled in the area of Computer Science and Information Technology. I am an active member in the Association of Information Technology Professionals and active member of the Association of Computer Machinery-Southern University Chapter. I have obtained four interns during my collegiate years. In 2007 I obtained a 6 month Co-op at The Boeing Company in Houston, TX as a software engineer intern, building software for the space shuttle program at the Johnson Space Center. I am currently an intern at the City of Baton Rouge in the Information Systems division performing daily back ups of network drives and providing support to Baton Rouge Police Department, EMS, and the Sheriff Department to name a few. More recently I accepted an offer for a intern position at y-12 national nuclear security complex in Oak Ridge, Tn.. I am schedule to graduate in December 2009 and be a vital force in both the IT industry and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.
