The first chapter of any now-NPHC-affiliated fraternity chartered below the Mason-Dixon Line was Alpha Phi Alpha’s Gamma Chapter (Virginia Union University) in Richmond. Their third chapter was chartered in 1907.
It can be said that our Beta Chapter was the first chapter of any now-NPHC-affiliated fraternity chartered in the “deep South,” however.
