is this how we use email?

if you’re a member of the Sigma Network, then you recently received two emails regarding the search for the international executive director. the first one came yesterday and basically said check out the national site for info. i didn’t think much of it, but apparently enough feathers were ruffled. so much so that paul sent out a follow up email today.

man o man where to start with this one. my first reaction was “off with his head!” i was kicked to the curb for sending just an innocent an email as this one to the general board. and now here comes an email sent to the entire Sigma Network that doesn’t bear the “Inspected by 32” stamp of approval. shouldn’t that warrant the same fate? when i calmed down, i realized that throwing the webmaster under the bus wouldn’t accomplish a thing, though apparently paul did. in fact, i think in taking half the email to exonerate himself and the committee, paul raises more suspiscion despite the half hearted attempt at owning up to the mix up. the webmaster need not worry because at the very least, in the end, paul stood behind you – ultimately supporting your intentions and not misconstruing it as making a “unilateral decision” as i was accused. and that’s probably what irks me the most.

now i don’t work in public relations, but i work with our PR folks enough to know how to position messages. rather than taking up two paragraphs to distance yourself and blame the webmaster for acting practically in isolation, you shoulda/coulda/woulda just left it alone and tightened up the messaging on the national website. sending out a response and hanging the webmaster out to dry just brought more attention than the situation really warrants. ever consider just sending an email saying more information posted on the IED? doh!
p.s. your response didn’t include any attachments. looks like you hit send a lil too early again. how’s the saying go? better to keep your mouth shut than to remove all doubt?

  1. What happened to Jemison? Is he really being used as the scapegoat for all the problems at the HQ? I hope not. We really need to explore some other options, otherwise Paul will get another term.

  2. Jemison can say goodbye in July. After reading Pauls e-mail, the handwriting is on the wall. And yes he will be used as the reason for the problems at the headquarters.
